AARON WONSON - CONCERT ON JANUARY 5, 2020 AT 2:00 P.M.

Please mark your calendar for January 5th, 2020 to hear Aaron Wonson at the piano at St. Paul Lutheran Church.  As some of you know, Aaron starting playing piano at the age of 13, and by the time he was 14, he was already enrolled in the New England Conservatory Preparatory School to study piano.  Aaron then moved on to Oberlin College and Conservatory to not only study piano but to also obtain and English degree. At Oberlin he is in the studio of Peter Takács who is himself a student of Leon Fleischer. Last winter Aaron was fortunate enough to perform Stravinsky’s Les Noces alongside Oberlin’s Choir in Carnegie Hall.

Along with his interest in the study and performance of the classical canon, most of his focus at school has been on the performance and interpretation of new music. Since arriving at Oberlin Aaron has been involved in the production of two U.S. premieres of works by Phillip Cashian and one world premiere of a work by faculty composer Elizabeth Ogonek. As a sort of capstone experience Aaron will be performing György Ligeti’s Piano Concerto with Oberlin’s Contemporary Music Ensemble.

Donations received at this concert will go toward sending youth from St. Paul to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America's National Youth Gathering in Minnesota to be held in 2021 and to help Aaron with his educational expenses.
