Dear Friends of Music at the Annisquam Village Church,
We are excited to invite you to this season’s Village Church Concerts. The unequalled acoustics of our historic building and the quality of our keyboard instruments have drawn world-class musicians to perform here time and again, pleasing audiences and artists alike. This season is no exception, and your presence is our dearest wish.
On the 21st of the “merry month of May, when all the buds are swellin’” we welcome the Anglo-Irish ensemble, O’Carolan Etcetera, to play their toe-tapping fiddle, flute, guitar, and hurdy-gurdy tunes. Balladeer Michael O’Leary and his bodhran join them for a set of laments, lullabies, and love songs. A tea and scones reception will round out this “Music from the Misty Isles” performance.
Returning for his fourth concert here, cellist Jonathan Miller, a 43-year veteran of the BSO, plays a concert of Vivaldi, Scarlatti, Geminiani and Bach on July 23. Jonathan has invited renowned harpsichordist Frances Conover Fitch to accompany him on the Adams harpsichord (now home from the Voicing the Woods exhibition at the Cape Ann Museum). Both will play virtuosic solo repertoire, as well. Don’t miss “Viva! Viva la Musica!” Reception to follow.
On August 20, Andrew and Beverly Soll celebrate the “Wood, Wire, and Wind” of the Adams instruments at the Village Church. Andrew Soll will play both of the organs and Beverly will take on the harpsichord demonstrating the versatility and singularity of these instruments with classical works of Bach, Mozart, Sweelinck, Hindemith, and Handel. If you missed the AVC/Museum-sponsored program last October, this is your chance to hear what the shouting is all about. Reception to follow.
