Three concerts featuring instruments of note are on the docket at the Annisquam Village Church this season. A Venetian cello, a harpsichord and an organ home from an exhibition at the museum, a bodhran, and even a hurdy gurdy will play to the resonant, intimate acoustics of the historic (Third Parish) 1830’s clapboard building that stands at the head of Lobster Cove in Annisquam.
May 21, at 3 PM, “when all the buds are swellin’ ” the Anglo-Irish ensemble, O’Carolan Etcetera, plays toe-tapping fiddle, flute, guitar, and hurdy-gurdy tunes. Balladeer Michael O’Leary and his bodhran joins them for laments, lullabies, and love songs. A tea and scones reception will round out this “Music from the Misty Isles” afternoon performance.
“Viva! Viva la Musica!” Cellist Jonathan Miller, a 43-year veteran of the BSO, plays a concert of Vivaldi, Scarlatti, Geminiani and Bach with renowned harpsichordist, Frances Conover Fitch on July 23 at 8 PM. Miller, Artistic Director of the Boston Artists Ensemble, pairs his Venetian Gofriller cello with the 1975 Adams harpsichord (now home from the “Voicing the Woods : Jeremy Adams, Instrument Maker” exhibition at the Cape Ann Museum). A reception follows.
On August 20 at 8 PM, Andrew and Beverly Soll celebrate the “Wood, Wire, and Wind” of the three Jeremy Adams instruments at the Village Church. Andrew Soll will play both the chamber and gallery organs and Beverly Soll will take on the harpsichord, demonstrating the versatility and singularity of these instruments in a program of classical solos and duos from the works of Bach, Mozart, Sweelinck, Hindemith, and Handel.
